I read Mike Donnelly's blog about mechatronic modeling, linked to above.These are very cool examples.
Has the team put any thought into the modeling of thermal systems during different states? For example, suppose that a fan blows across the coffee cup heater when the temperature exceeds a specific threshold, but shuts down once the temperature falls below the threshold. Can we simulate the convection cooling of such a thermal surface over time? It's very possible to do by converting to electrical and using a switch, but it may be much easier if we had a 'thermal switch', so that we can model moving air that is continually changing. Today I merely model my thermal systems using the electrical domain.
